Fair Trade LogoWhat is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a global movement responding to the failures of conventional trade that traditionally discriminates against disadvantaged communities.  Fair Trade empowers these communities through companies paying them fair, sustainable and stable prices for their products.   Fair prices leads to the world’s poorest and weakest producers being able to improve their position and have more control over their lives.  Fair Trade also includes a fair go for Indigenous Australians.

Fair Trade delivers a better deal for farmers and producers in the developing world through:

  •  A fair and stable price for their produce
  • Access to world markets
  • Security of long-term contracts
  • Develop skills to run a sustainable business
  • Investment in local community development
  • Improved working conditions
  • Environmentally sustainable farming methods
  • Support in gaining the knowledge and skills needed  to operate successfully in the global economy
  • The Fair Trade Minimum Price
